Classic American diner with good breakfast, decent lunch, and very hearty ( mom and pop) type dinners. Meat and potatoes kinna joint. Excellent desserts!

Don't dare let the old decor full you, this IS the way food is supposed to be! Good home cooking. Served by some wonderful people. You'll swear you're in your long lost favorite Aunt's kitchen. Not one thing is wrong here. If you are not satisfied with the diner or the delicious food in your plate, then you need a reality check. The best go-to-comfort good. (Period) I don't even eat pie! Lol But I will here!

Hamburger was soggy & untasty. Other 2 women with me didn't enjoy their meals as well. Just soup for me from now on.

We are talking "old school" and I can appreciate Old School. A place where you get good grub at a fair price. Locals are greeted by name, menu caters to a senior crowd with soup and 1/2 sandwich menu and apple sauce can be a side. I only was here for lunch, but wish I was here for breakfast as well. You won't leave hungry and you won't leave broke. Kudos at least there is one place like this left.

Don't let the size or decor scare you away. Good, cheap breakfast. Small little place but quality good food! Service was very good.

1970s anyone? Table top jukebox with Neil Diamond's Hello Again ready to go? Framed photos of teddy bears playing golf? A menu that stretches for days from Puppy Dogs to Peach Melba? This is diner food like it's supposed to be. Marble Rye and fat French Fries, good coffee and a no nonsense friendly wait staff. Why in the world would you eat at a Ponderosa when you can eat homemade goulash and smell the plastic flowers? I love this place -- everyone knows everyone's name except mine. I'll be back!

This diner is the place for comfort food- amazing selection of add in for omelets, warm gooey sandwiches and home fries covered in homemade gravy. You will leave full and happy with your service but maybe a bit guilty about the amount of food now sitting in your belly!

My 14 yr old son and I stumbled upon the Gourmet Family Restaurant in Clarks Summit this morning and didn't know what to expect -- and we loved it! He got French Toast with a side of bacon and is STILL saying that it was best bacon he has ever had (I tasted and he wasn't exaggerating; it was cooked perfectly!). I ordered the Crab Cake Eggs Benedict and the waitress, Mary, smiled and said "Ooh - you are going to enjoy this!" -- and she was right! The crab cakes were delicious as was the Hollandaise sauce on the eggs. We had a terrific meal and really enjoyed the kitschy decor too. Just make sure you have cash! (No credit cards accepted).

Food was average. Prices too high for such average food. Service ok but some waitresses suck.

Good prices. Food was mediocre. I had the chicken Calabrese which was very little chicken and more potatoes than anything. My brother got the buffalo chicken sandwich which he said was average. The pie and coffee was good and the helping of ice cream was extra generous. Wait staff was very friendly, but her recommendations were a bit off. The decor is blast from the past charming. I'd recommend it over a chain any day, but not quite the diamond in the rough I was hoping for.

This place is absolutely adorable. The decor is really retro, little juke boxes at each table, and the staff couldn't be friendlier. Oh, and the food! Delicious home made cooking. I had the crab cake Benedict and it was awesome!! The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars is because they don't accept credit cards. But I knew that in advance so I was ok with it. Definitely a place worth trying!

A diner...5 stars? OK, well I'm a little biased because I eat here all the time. If you're looking for a great Americana style diner which hasn't changed decor in at least 30 years, this is the place for you. The food is good in my opinion and most items are better than any other diner that I've tried in NEPA. Rueben is surprisingly good and they make good eggs...that's really all I need from a diner. Say hi to Mary for me if you stop in.

Awesome breakfast Our family of four stopped here on our way out of town...wish I had discovered it before hand. A wonderful family diner. Old style setting, but great food. My wife and I enjoyed the Crab Cakes Benedict. Very rich and very tasty. I also ordered a side of Home Fries that were very good. My son had a Buffalo Burger with fries that he said was good. Friendly service, nice staff, great location

This place has basic diner food: breakfast all day, reuben, burgers, battered fish/chips, clubs, omelets, pancakes, etc. The food is ok, but it's not hard to figure how you'd make most items better. (Like other diners in the area, they don't seem to season their eggs or fries with any salt, so I'd start there.) I usually get pancakes or scrambled eggs w/veggies and cheese, and it works for me. The name of the place is a bit misleading, if you don't look at the exterior when you're walking in. There's definitely nothing "Gourmet" about it, but the place is inexpensive and convenient. That is unless you're not carrying cash, in which case it becomes decidedly inconvenient. And more expensive if you use the ATM next door and pay a service charge. They don't take credit/debit cards, and my guess is they never will. Weird decor. A couple of booths to avoid because the springs are shot. No frills service. 2.5 stars, so I'll round up to 3.

My wife and I stop here whenever traveling through Clarks Summit primarily for their cream of broccoli soup - which is the best we've ever had. I personally only like their breakfast food which is not overly greasy as one might expect at a diner. My wife on the other hand loves everything here and she is definitely not a diner type person. She especially likes their Reuben sandwich. I've ventured off their breakfast menu a few times with little success. I've never had anything "bad" but most of the non-breakfast food I've had here can be described as "meh". It's mostly bland and nothing special. They have an expansive menu so there's plenty to choose from. 50+ types of omelets, deli sandwiches, meatloaf, burgers, open faced sandwiches, liver, catfish, etc. The fruit-of-the-forest pie is incredible. If in stock you can get a whole pie to go. I would have given this place a 4/5 but the refusal to accept credit/debit cards puts it down to a 3/5. It's 2012 folks. You're decor can remain in the 70's but your payment methods cannot.

We go here when visiting family in Clarks Summit. The place is small, and usually packed at lunch time. We decided to go here for breakfast, we went on a Saturday morning, and it was empty. There were only two other tables. I got a little concerned, because as I say the place is jammed at lunch time, so I couldn't figure out why noone was there for breakfast. Well, I was about to find out, their breakfast is overpriced, and not that great. Don't get me wrong, I like the place, I gave it four stars, just stick to going here for lunch or dinner, and stick with denny's for breakfast.

Very unfriendly help, so unfriendly and rude I got up and left. The waitress was apparently overworked when she wrote down my order and I changed it 15 seconds later

The only gourmet here is the word written on the sign out front. I found the food to be bland and very greasy, even for a greasy spoon diner. Meals are served à la carte, and are overpriced. It's clear the restaurant caters to local retirees, probably because they are too old to care that their cholesterol will go through the roof after frequenting this establishment too many times. The popularity of this place baffles me; Clarks Summit has several local restaurants, all of which are better than the Gourmet Family Diner.

Below average diner fare in a rather cramped dining area. My breakfast platter consisted of french toast, bacon, sausage and a scrambled egg with cheese. The syrup was forgotten. The orange juice was served in a 5 ounce glass (3 sips). The cheese was on the egg instead of in it. The bacon was good, though. The decor is rather bizarre... look for the picture of Jesus in space. They do not accept plastic of any kind, which I find to be obnoxious and inconvenient.

I'm not a big diner food guy, but this place is actually great, best omelettes in the area, affordable and doesnt taste like cigarettes like most diner food does. They have real stupid pictures on the one wall, which is great, they have that one pic of jesus that looks like Kevin Costner(you know the one im talkin about). There's usually a big wait on weekends, bc people freak out over this place

Despite the hokey name, my mom and I decided to try it out since it was recommended to us by our hotel desk and more importantly, seemed to be the only place open at the time. The Reuben sandwich I got was quite good, but the mashed potatoes were way too salty. Very small and felt homey, which I enjoyed, although they didn't accept credit cards, which I did not.

I am a big fan of the Gourmet. If you are looking for good diner food (which we all do on occasion!), Gourmet Family Restaurant would satisfy your diner cravings, especially for breakfast. The food has been consistent, and very good. I am a fan of the pancake...They have amazing pancakes..plain, but accepting of butter and syrup. I try to get them a few times a month....
